Butterfly | Online

April 19, 2020 @ 12:00PM — April 21, 2020 @ 11:00PM Eastern Time (US & Canada)

From the whispers of the past we hear a resound that cannot be silenced. Every human - beautiful or plain, desirable or marginalized - is precious and created with purpose. Join Ballet 5:8 for Julianna Rubio Slager’s acclaimed Butterfly, a gripping one-act ballet based on the story of a Holocaust survivor. Butterfly also features actual artwork from WWII Terezin and honors the Jewish children, artists and others held there.

Our remaining 2019/20 Season in-person performances, including two showings of Butterfly, have been cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions. While there are many uncertainties in the future and performing artists are waiting to find their home once again on the stage, Ballet 5:8 is using this time to find new ways of bringing hope and generosity to communities across the globe and people like you. After the tremendous success of the film version premiere of Slager's The Space in Between last month, we are excited to also present the incredible one-act ballet Butterfly in this format April 19-21.

"Butterfly is a compelling and deeply immersive portrayal of the victory of the human spirit, armed with faith, over the cruelest of human atrocities. The choreography is innovative, the costuming provoking, and the storytelling breathtaking. The Ballet 5:8 artists have presented the world with an irreplaceable gift: a courageously stunning and immediately impactful invitation into the lives and hearts of those men, women, and children who battled the deepest wounds of body, mind, and heart at the WWII Theresienstadt ghetto and concentration camp."

Your Donation Matters

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Ballet 5:8 relies on support from people like you to make each performing season full of innovative storytelling and breathtaking dance possible. The creation of Butterfly and each performance, including this very special online performance, are possible because of your investment in our artists and our mission.

We still need to raise $32,000 for the 2019/20 Season. Your donation directly supports the Artists of Ballet 5:8, ensuring we can keep our dedicated team employed through the end of our fiscal year, and that we can continue to prepare for exciting performances for the 2020/21 Season!

If the needed funds are raised, we also hope to extend our artist contracts for an additional three weeks residency in May after we are allowed to return to the studios. This will provide much-needed opportunity for the artists and artistic team to make up for rehearsal and training time that was severely limited during the COVID-19 pandemic, as they look toward the 2020/21 Season.

After selecting your ticket, you will be able to make a donation on the next screen. You are also welcome to mail a gift to our studios at 11545 W 183rd Pl Ste 101 Orland Park, IL 60467. Please make checks payable to Ballet Five Eight NFP and write" Butterfly Online in the memo line.
